Dr. Ellen is a board certified pediatric dentist and mother of three. She truly cares about children, and shes committed to providing exceptional oral health care in an environment where they feel safe. That means answering their questions, teaching them about oral hygiene and just simply taking the time to make her patients in Poway feel supported.

Dr. Johnson is the founder and owner of San Diego Dental Anesthesia. He is a dual board-certified dental anesthesiologist serving over 60 pediatric specialists in greater San Diego. Dr. Johnson lives with his wife and children in San Diego, California, where he was born and raised. Hes an active member of the community and enjoys serving on the Board of Directors for the San Diego County Dental Society. He also serves as faculty, part-time, at Lutheran Medical Center where he lectures to pediatric residents about emergency management and in-office general anesthesia for children.
Dr. Johnson earned his post-doctoral degree in dental anesthesiology and his doctorate in dental surgery from Loma Linda University. In the fourth year of his doctoral program, he was awarded Excellence in the Field of Dental Anesthesia by the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA), graduating from his dental anesthesia residency academically ranked first in his class. His bachelors degree in chemistry is from the University of San Diego.
Dr. Chenard is a board certified orthodontist who has been practicing in San Diego since 2006. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at UCSD and earned his dental degree at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He completed his orthodontics residency and TMJ fellowship at the University of Rochester thereafter.
Dr. Chenard provides top-notch orthodontic treatment to children and adults in a comfortable, caring, and professional manner. His expertise includes Invisalign, clear braces, self-ligating braces, and traditional braces. In addition to orthodontics, Dr. Chenard also specializes in TMJ disorders (TMJ pain and teeth grinding) and dentofacial orthopedics which involves the guidance of facial growth and development. He is an active member of American Association of Orthodontists, California Association of Orthdontists, and Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists.
In his free time, Dr. Chenard enjoys traveling, fishing, mountain biking, camping, freediving, and surfing. He also participates in the UCSD Flying Samaritans dental group, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free health care for underserved populations in Mexico. Dr. Chenard has participated in dental mission trips to Mexico, Costa Rica, and Nepal.
As a native of Southern California, Dr. Ellen is proud to serve the community in and around Poway, CA, and enjoys educating at local community events, schools and churches about effective oral hygiene. She also helps out with her daughters Girl Scout troop. In 2017, she and her staff participated in Chelseas Run, a memorial run that raises money and awareness to encourage safety and positivity for todays youth community.

Dr. Ellen has always had a special way with children. She grew up in Orange County, CA, and, as a teenager, spent her spare time tutoring younger kids. So its no surprise that, when she decided to pursue a career in dentistry, she was drawn to serving younger patients.
After completing her DDS, Dr. Ellen founded Northern Virginia Pediatric Dentistry, and word spread quickly about the exemplary care that she providedearning her the #1 ranking on Dr. Oogle reviews for pediatric dentistry in her area. She attributes the success, in part, to her ability to build rapport with kids.
During my undergrad, I majored in biology and minored in studio art at the University of California at Irvine. It was the perfect mix for me, because I love artmaking things beautifulbut I wanted to work in healthcare, where I could make a positive difference on peoples lives. Now I can do both. ~Dr. Ellen
Today, Dr. Ellen is proud to bring exceptional pediatric dentistry to the community of Poway, CA. At her practice, Dr. Ellen Im Pediatric Dentistry, she and her dream team serve children, ranging from infants to adolescents, with a range of preventative and restorative dental care.
The family enjoys attending the kids sporting events (soccer and softball), getting involved with their church, arts and crafts, and helping out with their daughters Girl Scout troop. In addition, Dr. Ellen teaches Sunday school, is an active leader in the Womens Ministry, and enjoys practicing yoga.
After completing her DDS, Dr. Ellen treated the underserved population of greater Washington, DC, and within a few years established her own practice: Northern Virginia Pediatric Dentistry. Now she owns Dr. Ellen Im Pediatric Dentistry in Poway, CA.
